Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching U18s East Devon Pre Season Tour 2018

MLTNC U18s toured East Devon in pre season, playing 3 games in a weekend. The first was at the picturesque St Martin’s FC in Exminster. 

The game itself was a slow burner, catching light on the hour mark when Josh Connolly split open the St Martin’s defence with an inch perfect diagonal pass for Sam Kirby who was able to get in behind and pull back invitingly for Tom Green to calmly slot home to give the visitors a deserved lead. 

St Martin’s got back into the game in fortuitous circumstances when Callum New made a good save at the feet of an onrushing forward only for it to rebound back off the striker and trickle into the unguarded net. 

But it was the tourists who won the game thanks to a calm left foot finish by substitute Connor Stevens which went in off the inside of the far post.

The next morning the tourists faced Southampton FC’s South West U16 side at St Peter’s School in Exeter. 

MLTNC U18s started much the better side, with midfield trio of Ben Croome, Tom Green and Isaac Ebejer swarming all over the Saints, and got their rewards when Connor Stevens cut in from the right and unleashed a sensational curling left foot shot that found the top left-hand corner of the net. 

Stevens who was captain for the day and now brimming with confidence doubled the lead just a matter of seconds later when he chipped the goalkeeper, this time with his right foot, into exactly the same part of the goal as coach Elliott Cooke described it ‘where the spiders live’. 

Stevens followed with another two smart finishes to make it 4-0 early in the second half. 

The only blot on the coffee book was hesitancy at the back which allowed The Saints to pull a goal back before right wing back Bailey Bavister found himself in an unusually advanced position, finished off a fine team move by squeezing his shot through the hands of the keeper.

Southampton South West 1-5 MLTNC U18s

The third game in three days was against Exmouth Town U18s, and after the exploits of the day before, it was clear that it was a bridge too far to play 3 games in 3 days. 

Overrun by an energetic and physical side MLTNC U18s slumped to a 9-1 thumping.

Will's Story: We welcome on board our first ever Player from the Isle of Wight

We welcome our first ever player from the Isle of Wight into the #MLTNCFamily as Will joins the Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Academy after impressing our Coaches.

"Footy-Mad"12 year-old Will attends Christ the King Secondary School on the Isle of Wight and is now a family member of our Academy U13's, becoming the first "islander" to do so, making the journey across every Wednesday and Friday with Dad, Ian!

MAKING HEADLINES: Will features in Island County Press

Will is passionate about football, not just playing it but studies stats all the time, and also has an interest in Athletics, competing for his School and island Athletics Teams in Hampshire at 100 and 200 metres as well as various field events, especially the high jump which he set the record for at primary school!

Will's young sporting journey hasn't been so straight forward and is one of personal triumph having been diagnosed with Children's epilepsy only three years ago, having just moved to the island at the end of 2012.

At that time Will was told by a consultant to avoid all contact sports including football, swimming, cycling & skateboarding. A huge blow for a sports mad nine year old Will, and his family.

Will was determined this was not going to stop his dreams and against all expectations he has resumed all his sport over time and in the last 18 months started to excel at both athletics and football.

This time last year he was still on 8 doses of medicine a day but being fit free for over two years now, he has gradually reduced that, and on Christmas day 2016 he was able to stop taking anything. You can see what a triumph that was for him. He was given a positive report by the consultant in the summer but only due to massive growth spurts has he kept taking a nominal amount of medicine as a precaution but he entered the New year, a very happy and healthy child.

The consultant described his changes as "remarkable". He is determined to succeed and perhaps more than most, wanting to prove people wrong who dismissed him three years ago.

"Our son William has joined in the under 13s this year and been taken into the Academy. From the first moment we arrived at MLTNC we were made to feel extremely welcome and important despite all the other children that play here."

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Director Francis Benali receives Freedom of Southampton

On Wednesday 16th November, Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Director, Francis Benali, was granted the Freedom of Southampton.

SUPER-FRAN: Stands proud with Honorary Award

The honour was awarded in recognition of Fran's fund raising achievements for charitable causes, having raised more than £390,000 for Cancer Research UK.

In his most recent Challenge, Benali's Big Race Fran ran a marathon and cycled 75 miles (120km) each day for a fortnight in October with the 1,000-mile (1,600km) route linking 44 football clubs taking him to South Wales, the Midlands and the North-West, before crossing the country and returning via East Anglia and London.

Fran was welcomed "Home" with a standing ovation from fans when he arrived at St Mary's Stadium at half-time during the home match against Burnley on 16th October.

All the MLTNC Team are extremely proud of Franny as he continues to act as a truly inspirational and positive Role Model for not only our Players, but our Coaches too.

Matt makes Ben's Big Day with Chauffeur Surprise!

On Wednesday 20th July, Matt pulled off one of the biggest surprises for our Academy Goalkeeper Ben, as he turned up at his doorstep to chauffeur him to his Year 6 Prom!

Ben's Mum & Dad had been in on the Big Surprise after initially running the idea passed Steve Phillips who asked Matt whether he would shock Ben, who has been attending our Toynbee Academy since it's birth in 2012.

Matt was keen to make it happen, so arrived equipped with Chauffeur hat at the Shaw household just in time before the Prom with Ben still completely unaware.

Congratulations to Kezia who signs for Saints' Girls Team

SAINT KEZIA: Jody, Pele & Fran congratulate Kez!

Matt & all the Coaching Team would like to say a massive Well Done to Kezia, who becomes the 19th #MLTNCFamily member in four years to join a Professional Club after signing for Southampton FC's Girls U10's Team.

Kezia joined us initially a few seasons back at our Monday Development Centre and quickly caught the eye of our Coaching Team who promoted her up into our Wednesday Academy where she’s continued to flourish.

We are all very proud and excited for young Kezia, who has been a delight to coach and has a great attitude and desire to improve, along with bundles of natural ability.

Meet the Coaches: Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching's Joe Partington on his nine year journey with AFC Bournemouth

LOOKS THE PART: Joe acts as a fantastic role model

As the 2015/2016 season draws to a close, our Academy & Community Coach Joe Partington looks back on his nine year stint with AFC Bournemouth.

Joe played a part in "The Cherrie's" rise up through the ranks, from League Two to the Premier League.

Now, a key figure of Eastleigh FC, playing in the Vanarama National League, Joe hopes he can help "The Spitfires" climb up the Leagues and reduplicate the AFC Bournemouth success story of recent years.

I was 15 - just turned 16 maybe - when Portsmouth told me I wasn’t going to get a scholarship contract. I got a contact with Bournemouth and ended up playing a couple of trial games. Joe Roach invited me to join the youth team and I snapped it up.

I remember in my first year I only had a couple of opportunities to train with the first team. However, in my second year the club was having a lot of financial problems and a lot of the youth team lads ended up in training and on the bench. It was a blessing in disguise for us, because we wouldn’t have got that opportunity anywhere else.

My debut was Luton away. We ended up winning 4-1, Max Gradel scored a worldy. I came on towards the end of the game, I can’t even remember if I touched the ball, but it was a big moment for me.

Without a doubt my biggest moment that season was scoring the equaliser against Swansea. I came on for a few minutes, jumped up for a corner and closed my eyes - the ball hit me on the head and went in! I went a little bit mental; to do that when I was still a youth team player was pretty special.

At the end of that season we were going in one by one to find out if we had been offered professional deals. If I am honest, I wasn’t expecting to get one as there were some good players who missed out that season.

Kevin Bond wasn’t there himself, but Joe Roach delivered the news. He gave us a letter from the manager saying, ‘we’d like to invite you to turn professional’ - my mum has still got it somewhere!

I got my first start under Jimmy Quinn in a match at home to Bury. He wasn’t at the club very long, but for some reason he saw something in me to give me a start. I had a volley that came of my heel and went in, so it ended up being a good full debut and something to remember.

I remember Eddie coming in, because he had worked with the reserves for a long time already. I’d been working with him for a while and had a good relationship with him already. I played in his first game as manager, but unfortunately we ended up losing it late on at Darlington.

I think Eddie sort of knew that perhaps I was just a little bit too young. Or perhaps in his eyes he wanted to go with something different to get results, but I wasn’t a main pick in the side. At that age it was still nice to be involved consistently and be half a part of something special when the lads stayed up.

In the build up to the 2012/13 I felt like I had done quite well in pre-season and I had come back fit. Still, I had no idea that I would be starting the first game of the season. As a boyhood Portsmouth fan, walking out onto the pitch at Fratton Park and being a part of the game will be something I always remember.

Lee Bradbury and I were good friends, we used to travel in together pretty much everyday. We were at Colchester away when Eddie was leaving for Burnley and Bradders said to me, ‘I think I might be involved in looking after the squad’. Obviously, he ended being manager on a permanent basis and you can’t start travelling in with the manager, so I had to start doing my own thing!

When Eddie came back we had a chat and he said he wanted to turn me into a defender. We worked hard together on the training ground to make the transition as best we could. You don’t appreciate how much of his effort and time go into making people improve until you leave and experience different managers and different coaches.

I blocked a shot by Jordan Chiedozie in training and my leg ended up twisting the wrong way round after it got caught in the ground. I went for an x-ray that afternoon and Steve Hard told me it was fractured. I was devastated at the time but what can you do?

During my recovery, I came in one morning and expected to train with the fitness coaches as normal. I spoke to Steve about something that didn’t look quite right on my leg. He sent a photo to the surgeon and they called me in to operate on an infection the same day.

I ended up have three operations in a week. That period obviously wasn’t too positive for me, but If Steve hadn’t referred me to the surgeon when he did, God knows what would have happened to my leg!

Even though I was part of the sides that had success at AFC Bournemouth, I am not going to kid myself and say that I was a massive part of it. Every season that I was there the lads were so successful and winning games that it was difficult for me to get in, and even more difficult to stay in.

There wasn’t really any conversation at the end of my final season, it was just a mutual thing and we didn’t have to speak about it. I went in to see Eddie to say thank you and let him know how much I appreciated everything he had done for me as a coach and towards me as a person as well.

My best friend at Bournemouth? Without a doubt Steve Cook. We lived together for about three or four years, we were always a positive influence on each other. To this day, I am certain that Cooky and I are the best FIFA partnership the club has ever seen.

Matt Le Tissier celebrates our 1 Year Football Coaching Anniversary with the Southampton Day Services OTARS

WOW!!! What a fantastic evening of Football last night where Matt joined us to celebrate our 1 Year Anniversary with the Southampton Day Services OTARS.

"Our Story"

Steve Phillips, Managing Director, received a phone call early into 2015 from Nicki Parsons at Southampton OTARS who enquired whether it would be possible for us to provide one of our Coaching Team to take a regular football coaching session for the Southampton OTARS on Thursday evenings.

We were more than happy to help, so we found one of our coaches who was available on Thursday nights to take the sessions. So after Nicki organising the time and venue, our coach Ben Jefford headed down to the Southampton Sports Centre along with Steve to take the first session in April 2015.

SAVED! MLT's penalty palmed away by "Richard the Cat"

The first session went down like a storm! The OTARS thoroughly enjoyed Ben's games and learning new skills within the hour session and all had a great time.

Ben proceeded to run the session every Thursday evening, providing Football Fun with lots of laughs & smiles along the way.

After a few months, due to his footballing playing career, Ben was no longer available to take the session on a Thursday night due to having to travel up to London for his team at the time, Welling United FC.

This is where another member of our Coaching Team "took the OTARS under his wing," as Luke Davis stepped in to head up the sessions on a weekly basis.

Luke has done a fantastic job over the last year, building a special friendship with each and every Player as well as the Parents who come along to watch & support every week which was apparent last night in all the smiles and love on show.

Other members of our Coaching Team, Jamie Robinson, Jody Rivers, Pele & Sam Phillips have all stepped in to take sessions to cover Luke when he's been unavailable on the odd occasion, and have all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Once again, a massive Thank You to Nicki Parsons for making the phone call a year ago, and for giving our Coaches an opportunity to work with this incredible group of people..

Here's to many more years in Partnership with the Southampton OTARS to come!!

Oscar signs for Southampton FC Academy U9's

Matt & all the Coaching Team would like to say a massive Well Done to Oscar, who becomes the 18th MLTNC Family member in four years to join a Professional Academy after signing a contract with Category One classed Southampton FC.

Oscar joined Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching right from the start, in the 2012/2013 season, attending our Toynbee Academy on a Wednesday night as well as our Football Clubs at his School & our Half Term Holiday Soccer Schools at Wyvern College, Fair Oak.

Being comfortable with the ball on either foot, Oscar was spotted showcasing his Natural ability playing for his team on a Sunday. After being invited in to train with the Southampton FC Academy since Under 7s, he has this week signed for the Under 9's after impressing.

During Oscar's time with us, our Coaches have held specialist 1 to 1 sessions with him. Most recently being Sam Phillips, who helped Oscar to work on specific homework tasks set by Saints during his trial period.

Oscar's Mum, Caroline, had this to say:

"When Steve Phillips first invited Oscar to attend MLT 3 years ago we were all so excited. Over this time MLT has given Oscar a great environment in which to learn and develop new skills and get a good understanding of the game.

He has a great relationship with the coaches and they have got to know him well through the academy, clubs and 1-2-1 Coaching. MLT offered Oscar a great foundation to begin his football journey."

Tommy invited to join AFC Bournemouth Academy

Joe, Pele, Jody & Franny congratulate Tommy at Toynbee

A Big Well Done to our Toynbee Academy U8 Player Tommy, who has been on trial with AFC Bournemouth for the last 6 weeks and on Saturday, played against their Academy U8's.

Tommy then got a call on Saturday afternoon, after impressing Matty Holmes, AFC Bournemouth Pre Academy Coach, saying they would like him to join their Academy, as of this week.

All of the Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Team are delighted for Tommy upon hearing this exciting news. He will now go and train with AFC Bournemouth every Tuesday and Thursday evening as well as attending our Academy on a Wednesday where sessions driven by Matt’s Philosophy, are headed up by Ex-Professionals Francis Benali & Pele amongst others under the guidance of Jody Rivers.

Tommy’s Mum, Nicky, had this to say about Tommy’s natural progression through Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching:

“Tommy has loved Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching since the day he started.  He initially had a Birthday Party with them which he loved and then joined their Monday Night Football Development Centre session with a couple of his friends.

He has really improved since he has worked with you guys so thank you for what you have set up and your amazing coaches, they are all so committed and also lovely guys who are all passionate about football and brilliant with the children. AFC Totton and Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching agree Partnership

AFC Totton and Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching (MLT Natural Coaching) have today announced a partnership between the two organisations.

Starting next season (season 2016/17) MLT Natural Coaching will manage AFC Totton U16’s and will feed players from their Academy into the squad. From Season 2017/18 both manager and players from U16’s will move into AFC Totton U18’s with a new manager and players coming into the U16’s from MLT Natural Coaching Academy.

Pele – MLT Natural Coaching’s Community Head Coach will manage AFC Totton U16’s in the 2016/17 season.

(Pele is an ex Southampton & West Bromwich Albion Player, UEFA B Licensed Coach. Pele has played at the highest level in England and provides an International flair to MLT Natural Coaching with his unique Portuguese Style approach).

Pele, MLT Natural Coaching’s Community Head Coach said “I feel very privileged to be part of an amazing set up combining Community work and Academy football at Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching. I am honoured to be involved with this and I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach Matt’s philosophy at a great club and help our youth players achieve their dreams, progressing them into Men’s football.”

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching's Francis Benali wins Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year at JustGiving Awards

Massive Congratulations last night to our very own Francis Benali upon winning Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year at the JustGiving Awards for his remarkable efforts, raising life-changing money for Cancer Research UK.

Fran ran to all twenty Premier League grounds - a distance of over 1,000 miles in total, in 21 consecutive days - finishing up at his Home Club, Southampton FC. He ran over 50 miles a day on average, raising £265,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching launch New Wyvern College Girls Football Project, delivering Professional Football Coaching to Pupils

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching are delighted to be working closely with Wyvern College on a New Girls Football Project, where our Coach Jamie Robinson will be delivering Professional Football Coaching to School Pupils of all abilities.

Jamie commenced the Programme yesterday with the aim of giving all Girls attending, the opportunity to develop their Footballing Skills and learn more about the Game through attending a Weekly session on Wednesdays.

Following the recent success with the England Women's Team at the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Jamie looks forward to boosting participation in the Girls Game "Making a Positive Difference" through his Football Coaching within this Project.

  

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching launch New Toynbee School Project, delivering Professional Football Coaching to Pupils

Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching are delighted to be working closely with Toynbee School on a New Project, where our Coaching Team of Francis Benali, Ben Jefford & Joe Partington will be delivering Professional Football Coaching to School Pupils, Boys and Girls, who are interested in developing their Footballing Skills.

On Mondays, MLTNC FA Level 2 Qualified Coach and Welling United FC Player, Ben Jefford and MLTNC Head Coach and ex-Saints Fan Favourite, Francis Benali will be leading the Boys Coaching, providing Professional sessions for the 50 pupils attending. Toynbee have also assigned Student Leader Cam Ross from Year 11 who's passionate about football, to assist the sessions, where he can gain Coaching experience and benefit from working alongside Ben & Fran.

On Wednesdays, MLTNC UEFA B Qualified Coach and Eastleigh FC Player, Joe Partington will be heading up the Girls Coaching, providing Professional sessions. Toynbee have also assigned Student Leader Chloe Perry from Year 9 who would like to pursue a career in Teaching or Coaching, to assist and can hopefully gain some invaluable Coaching experience whilst being mentored by Joe.

We are very excited to have commenced the Project on Monday, where we've already received some positive feedback from the Boys who attended.

We look forward to commencing the Girls Coaching today and "Making a Positive Difference" through our Football Coaching for Toynbee School pupils in the future.

Matt Le Tissier is delighted to welcome Eastleigh FC's Joe Partington & Welling Utd's Ben Jefford to The MLT Natural Coaching Team

As Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching embarks on a 4th Season, we wish to enhance our MLT Natural Coaching Programme for every player who has been invited to join our “Family”.

We believe that by strengthening our MLT Natural Coaching Team, welcoming Joe Partington, Eastleigh FC and Ben Jefford, Welling Utd, both playing in the Vanarama National League, will have a greater positive influence on our young players, enhancing their natural talent.


After coming through the ranks at Premier League AFC Bournemouth, Joe Partington has found his feet at Eastleigh becoming a key part of the Team's Defence. 

With the ability to play Right Back or Centre Back, Joe is demonstrating that he's a force to be reckoned with at Vanarama National League level and all us at MLTNC hope Joe can help Eastleigh FC achieve promotion to the Football League this season.

Likewise, Ben Jefford is holding his own at Welling United FC, now being a regular starter for the Team and by picking up 4 Man of the Match Awards out of their opening 7 games, proving what an asset he is in the Vanarama National League.





We believe that both these additions to our Coaching Team are fantastic role models for all our Players, and they can give a Professional Player's perspective on the Game as well as buying into Matt's "Playing with Freedom" Philosophy.
